The future of independent hospitality is at stake. ​

​

Since the 2024 Budget, 89,000 jobs in our industry have vanished - and two hospitality businesses are closing every single day.​ 

​

Without urgent action in the upcoming November Budget, more of your favourite places to eat, drink, and socialise will disappear for good.

 

But it doesn't need to be this way. UK Hospitality has called for​​ three simple changes that will help our sector flourish again: 

​

1. Cut VAT on hospitality to 10% to help lower costs for businesses and stop price rises 

​

2. Reduce business rates to keep more brilliant food and drink on your high street

 

3. Fix National Insurance to allow the industry to hire and keep more people in employment

​

Research from street food membership organisation KERB shows just how impactful these changes would be for independent hospitality:

​

  • 50% of small food businesses would hire more staff​

  • 40% would lower their menu prices​

  • A huge 93% said a VAT reduction would have the biggest positive impact on their business

 

Yet astonishingly, the government has contemplated increasing it.
